Common Auto Accident Injuries

Common Auto Accident Injuries

An auto accident, even a minor one, can cause a broad spectrum of injuries, ranging from mild to severe. In addition to cuts, bruises and broken bones, common auto accident injuries we have seen at the RJS LAW GROUP include;

SOFT-TISSUE INJURIES:

A soft tissue injury is an injury to the connective tissues of the body; the muscles, tendons and ligaments. Whiplash for example, is an injury to the soft tissues of the neck caused by a sudden and violent stretching and flexing of these tissues. A soft tissue injury causes soreness, stiffness, limited range of motion and pain.

TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY:

A traumatic brain injury, may be caused by a blow to the head E.G, hitting your head against a windshield or by the brain hitting the inside of a skull in connection with a whiplash injury.
This trauma causes the soft tissue of the brain to bruise, swell or tear. A mild traumatic brain injury, may resolve in a matter of days or weeks, but a more severe injury may result in permanent brain damage

DISC INJURIES:

The spinal discs, sits between the spinal vertebrae and serve as cushion between the bones. If the disc is damaged in a cohesion, the disc may bulge or rupture and impinge on a nerve, causing severe pain, weakness, numbness, and tingling in the area where the nerve travels.

INTERNAL INJURIES:

Internal injuries, (E.G a ruptured spleen, punctured lung or internal bleeding) are particularly dangerous, because the symptoms may not appear till the condition becomes severe or life threatening.

MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL INJURIES:

Mental and emotion injuries, including anxiety, depression, panic attacks and post traumatic stress disorder, may be the direct result of an auto accident or may follow from the physical injuries sustained in the accident. For example, a person who walked away from an accident with only cuts and bruises may be immobilized by a fear of driving, while a person who sustained a disabling back injury, may fall into a deep depression because he can no longer work or play with his children.
